Q: What kind of printer do you use?
A: For our DTF Transfers we print using a commercial grade printer. We only use inks, powder, and film that are specially made for this printer as well so we get the best results every single time. We are often doing standard upkeep including regular cleanings, alignment checks, filter changes, and more to ensure every print is perfect.
For our Sublimation, we use an Epson wide format printer. This gives us the best, most vibrant sublimation transfers and with the 24" wide roll, we can print sublimation gang sheets as well.
Q: What makes a quality DTF Transfer?
A: DTF transfers should have bright, accurate colors that are exactly what you ordered. Depending on the printer, you may need to adjust your artwork colors to ensure they are printing the correct colors. You should always be able to receive a color chart that was printed on their machine to help! Ours are free and you can add one to your cart or just put in your order notes that you would like one. All DTFs get a total coating with white ink. This should be a bright, even layer on the back of the print and you can tell it is cured enough if it has an orange peel texture. You should not be able to see any of the white peeking out around the image to the front unless your artwork has white outlines on it, of course. Your transfers should feel soft and thin not like a sheet of paper or a sticker on your shirt. They should sink into the garment you are pressing. You can always do a second press with a texture silicone mat or a teflon sheet to help!! DTF technology has evolved so much and if you're not getting this top quality from your printer, it may be time to switch.
Q: How do I press these transfers?
A: For DTF transfers: Press at 270 degrees for 7 seconds and 60-70 PSI. Hot Peel immediately. If you'd like to add some texture and help the DTF sink into the garment, you can do a second press with a teflon sheet or a silicone mat.
A: For Sublimation Transfers: Press at 400 degrees for 60 seconds with medium pressure. Hot peel immediately. Different blanks may need some adjustments for temperature and time.
Q: What is PSI and why is it important?
A: PSI is the amount of pressure you are using with your heat press. It's important to have a good amount of even pressure in order to ensure good contact with your print. This helps the transfers melt into the garment for a softer feel and allows them to last for a long time. If you are seeing wrinkling after your first wash, it may indicate you did not have enough pressure when pressing.
Q: Do I need a heat press?
A: It is highly recommended that with DTF transfers you use a heat press with pressure. Most commonly that would be a clam shell press that you can adjust the pressure settings on. The Cricut heat presses will work, but only if you apply pressure on top of it. Irons will not work with these transfers.
Q: Is there a minimum quantity to order?
A: No minimums, ever!
Q: What is the difference between DTF and Sublimation?
A: Material Compatibility: DTF works on a wide variety of materials (including cotton), while sublimation is restricted mainly to polyester or polyester-coated surfaces.
Process and Ink: DTF uses pigment-based inks with an adhesive powder, while sublimation uses dye-based inks that bond chemically with polyester fibers.
Durability and Feel: Sublimation becomes part of the fabric, making it more durable and giving a softer feel, while DTF transfers tend to sit on top of the fabric and may feel slightly more textured.
If you need versatility across different fabric types, DTF might be the better option. If you're primarily working with polyester and want long-lasting, vibrant prints, sublimation is a great choice.
